Lessons:
Learning mahjong from an experienced educator means you'll grasp the rules, strategy, and etiquette faster, without the frustration of piecing it together on your own. I'll tailor the pace to your level, turning what can feel like a steep learning curve into a fun experience. Great handouts for you to keep.
New to Mahjong 1 class:
This 2.5-hour session is designed for complete beginners. We'll start with the basics — tiles, hands, and table etiquette — then move into gameplay fundamentals like drawing, discarding, calling, and basic scoring. You'll play practice hands with guidance throughout.
Cost: $50 (or $150 for a private group of 4)
Mahjong 2: Building your Game
Ready to go beyond the basics? This 2.5-hour session picks up where the first lesson left off, diving into strategy, hand-reading, and more defensive plays. We'll cover topics like defensive play, reading discards, planning your hand efficiently, and common patterns experienced players rely on. This class is best for those who've completed the intro lesson or already know the fundamentals and want to sharpen their game. Cost: $50 a session.
Weekly groups:
Join us for weekly ongoing game where players come together to practice, socialize, and sharpen their skills in a relaxed setting. Each week features open play with light coaching available for those who want it — perfect for building consistency, meeting other players, and staying sharp between lessons. Drop in whenever you can, or commit to the full series; all skill levels beyond the beginner lesson are welcome. Cost: $10 per session.
A little more:
Book a private event for birthdays, girls' nights, or team-building. Mahjong makes for surprisingly effective team building. The game demands communication, quick decision-making, and reading your opponents, skills that translate directly to how teams collaborate at work.
Raising Hope:
Supporting causes I care about is important to me, and I'm glad to donate my time to help nonprofits raise funds. I offer complimentary mahjong lessons or curated play sessions for charity auctions, fundraisers, and community events — a fun, hands-on experience that helps organizations reach their goals while introducing new players to the game. If you're planning a fundraiser and think this would be a good fit, reach out and let's talk details.
Mahjong is fun because it blends strategy, surprise, and social connection into every hand, keeping you mentally sharp while you laugh, chat, and celebrate with the people around the table. Come for the tiles, stay for the community.
