Meet the mind (& heart) behind Mahjong in the Mountains.
My husband, daughter, myself & pets moved to the North Carolina mountains eleven years ago, trading Texas summers for four real seasons and a slower, more intentional pace of life — and this community has given me far more than I ever expected. With a Ph.D. in the psychology of learning (from the University of North Texas), I've spent my career studying how people actually absorb new skills: not through pressure or repetition alone, but through curiosity, connection, and a little bit of joy. Mahjong in the Mountains grew out of a simple belief — that teaching people something new, done well, is one of the most generous things you can offer a community, and that a table full of tiles and new friends is exactly the kind of good this place deserves more of.
The friendships and sense of belonging I found through my mahjong lessons meant so much that I wanted to help others experience it too. That inspired me to get certified by Oh My Mahjong, so I could teach with confidence and pass on the same joy, connection, and community that shaped my own journey. I can't wait to meet you and share my enthusiasm for tiles & strategy & fun :)
